Our purposes

Where the Work Happens

Three statutory objects, defined in our statutes as restated in November 2025. Everything the Foundation does must fall within them.

  • Culture & the arts — promotion of culture and the arts through patronage support to artistic production, in its various expressions.
  • National heritage — recovery and maintenance of national historic, artistic and cultural heritage.
  • Education & employment — promotion of employment and of social and cultural development through education and training, especially in digital matters.

How we're governed

Four bodies, each with a defined role. Mandates run four years and may be renewed twice.

Meets annually

Oversight and assurance

The checks that sit around every decision.

Independent audit

A registered statutory auditor supervises management and accounts monthly, and issues formal annual opinions on the accounts and the budget.

Separation of duties

The auditor may not hold any administration or management post. Supervision and management stay in different hands.

Two-stage approval

Accounts are proposed by the Board of Directors after the auditor’s opinion, then approved separately by the Founders’ Council.

How decisions are made

From proposal to approval, four steps.

1 · Propose

The Board of Directors prepares plans, budgets and programme proposals.

2 · Approve

The Board of Directors decides, represents the Foundation and commits it.

3 · Review

The statutory auditor issues an independent opinion on the accounts and budget.

4 · Ratify

The Founders’ Council approves the annual report and accounts.
